Good web design
Here's a checklist of good design principles. I did not make these principles up. Websites like Amazon and Ebay whose business depends on the web pay a lot of money to study what keeps people on their site, and what drives people away..
People don't read, they scan. So use lots of white space and make your important words stand out on the page. Write clear unambiguous sentences in a readable font. Use bold fonts to make your important words stand out. If it is difficult for you to write your message in simple declarative sentences, find someone that can - and have them write your website for you.
People are impatient. Studies show that people decide to stay on your webpage within microseconds, so simple graphics and fewer words are best. The Google search page is the gold standard of simplicity. Huge slow loading graphics are a cardinal sin and drive people away. Optimize your graphics!
People are easily confused. Keep your web design clutter free. People go to your website for information, not your beautiful graphics or your wonderful design. so make your message stand out. Make the navigation between pages simple and consistent; make it easy for people to find what they are looking for.

Web statistics can give you an idea of your web traffic and which pages are working for you
I highly recommend you find an experienced web designer with good graphics sensibility; after all, this is your public face, and a poorly designed website can kill your business.
